Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey Jr.) was a small-time crook until he stumbled upon an acting job that whisked him away to California, where he would attend parties, acting lessons with Gay Perry (Val Kilmer), and witness the disposal of a girl's dead body. After this, Harry becomes the perfect patsy, and can't seem to rid himself of the body, the baggage of meeting an old crush (Michelle Monaghan), or his bad luck. Throw all this together with the fact that all these suspicious events seem to come straight out of a bad detective novel, and viewers will be kept on the edge of the edge of their seats while simultaneously laughing their heads off.
