A gore-happy "greatest horror hits" party disc,
Boogeymen is a funky and somewhat baffling collection of contemporary horror movie madmen for the
Scream generation. Seventeen serial killers and homicidal maniacs are represented in brief but complete scenes, from the classic (
Psycho's Norman Bates and Michael Myers from
Halloween) to the curious (unknown New Zealand thriller
The Ugly) to the preposterous (
Wishmaster,
Leprechaun, and Corbin Bernsen as
The Dentist). Skewed for the video-age horror buff, this is a survey for the children of Freddie Krueger and Jason Voorhees who like their thrillers thick with blood and body parts. Where this scream-a-thon shines is in its presentation: the slickly engineered interactive DVD features optional Robert "Freddy Krueger" Englund commentary, playful pop-up "FlixFacts" trivia, trailers, quizzes, and bite-sized character bios, all accessed from snazzy, smooth, easy-to-navigate animated menus.
